200-bed hospital set up in Dharavi

The Maharashtra Government has set up a special 200-bed hospital with oxygen facility at Dharavi, the largest coronavirus hotspot in the state. It will be operational from today at the Maharashtra Nature Park, which is a densely populated part of India’s largest slum.

A press statement issued by the Maharashtra Government said the hospital has been set up in a period of only 15 days. State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope reviewed the hospital on Monday. Each bed has been provided with a separate oxygen facility, which is crucial if patients develop respiratory distress.

The hospital has 10 doctors, 15 nurses and full-time ambulances. It also has a thermal sensor system that allows timely detection of patients suffering from fever. A CCTV system has also been installed at the site. Patients suffering from ailments other than coronavirus infection will also receive free treatment at the hospital.

Dharavi is the largest slum in the country, with over 10-lakh people staying in just over 500 acres. The population density has led to the rapid transmission of corona infection. – The Hindu BusinessLine
