350-bed ward for cancer patients at SKMCH soon

Tripurari Sharan, the Chief Secretary, has announced the establishment of a 350-bed cancer ward at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur.The proposed ward is expected to cost Rs700 crore, according to the government.Sharan, who inaugurated the Covid-19 Care Unit, a 100-bed facility funded by the ICICI Foundation, said the health department’s proposal for adding another ward for the treatment of cancer will be submitted to the cabinet for consideration.The chief secretary directed Kaushal Kishore, the health department’s addition secretary, who was present on the occasion, to initiate the process at the earliest and send the cabinet nod proposal.

The chief secretary opened a 100-bed unit at the SKMCH earlier today for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.It will also provide the facility of chemotherapy to cancer patients.It has been constructed under the ICICI Foundation’s CSR initiative.The unit will have lost oxygen supply.

The first of its kind in the state, the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) clinic will be designed to serve the needs of cancer patients who previously had to travel to Mumbai or Delhi to use the facility.The Covid Care Unit, according to ICICI Bank zonal chief Nilesh Ranjan and regional chief Shiv Patnaik, will play an important role in providing appropriate care to patients infected with the virus.On the occasion, Tirhut divisional commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, Muzaffarpur district magistrate Pranav Kumar, and Muzaffarpur deputy development commissioner Ashtush Dwivedi were also present.
