500-bedded pediatric hospital set to function fully by next month in Bemina, Srinagar

Equipped with all modern equipment for managing the high-risk pediatric cases and to serve as the Centre of Excellence in Pediatric in Kashmir division valley’s premiere and newly established 500 bedded children hospital at Bemina is all set to fully operationalize by next month.

Conforming the development, a top official at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar while speaking to the Rising Kashmir said that they are hopeful of starting all the hospital services at children hospital at Bemina by next month and they are also holding meetings with R&B and MED to facilitate the final process of takeover.

“We are holding another meeting tomorrow to facilitate the process, and we are hopeful all the hospital services at GB Pant Bemina will be operational by next month”, the official said.

Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir Rafiq Ahmed Rafiq told Rising Kashmir that apart from the teething troubles they have completed all the infrastructural work and the building is good to go ahead for the hospital use.

Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department Kashmir Er. Rashid Ahmed Dar also confirmed the development and said that 99 percent of the work from their side is also done as the hospital authorities are days away from starting the hospital services at full capacity.

Last year in the month of October, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was on a three-day visit in J&K, virtually inaugurated the 500-bedded-pediatric hospital in Bemina Srinagar from SKICC.

The hospital however was not operating at full capacity but had started the OPD services after it was inaugurated.

Notably, the Administrative Council (AC) under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha last year in July gave administrative approval to the construction of a 500-bedded pediatric hospital at Bemina, Srinagar.

The officials had stated that once operational, the hospital will strengthen the pediatric care facilities in Kashmir division, ease the burden of patient load on the existing tertiary level hospital, and ensure quality maternity, neonatal and pediatric care to the patients.

The project will be upgrading vital pediatric facilities on modern grounds and will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 114.81 crore. It also said that the hospital will also serve as the Centre of Excellence in Pediatrics in Kashmir Division, a government spokesman had said. Rising Kashmir
