A 1000-Bed facility soon at victoria hospital

A new one thousand-bedded facility will soon come up on the Victoria Hospital premises, a move doctors believe will ease patient congestion. This is a teaching hospital and is attached to the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. With Bowring Hospital being granted the status of a medical college, the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) is now obliged to have one thousand additional beds for its hospitals to meet the requirement as per the mandate of the Medical Council of India. It needs to match the 250 undergraduate and 280 postgraduate seats. Hence the move.

There is a proposal to have at least 30 intensive care unit (ICU) beds on one of the floors of the multistoried building. There is also a plan to have a modular OT on one of the floors. The structure will come up next to the existing Victoria Hospital building at an estimated cost of Rs 68 crore. The building will be ready in 18 months.
