AIIMS-Raipur Gets 10 More Operation Theatres

RAIPUR: AIIMS-Raipur has developed 10 new operation theatres – increasing their total number to 30. Following this, AIIMS administration claims that doctors will be able to perform 90 surgeries a day.

According to sources at the hospital, there is a need to expand facilities at AIIMS as the number of patients has been increasing. The 10 new operation theatres (OT) have been built on the fourth floor of AIIMS’s B-Block at a cost of Rs20 crores. They will be open to the patients from the new year onwards. With the new OTS, departments like paediatric, CTVS, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, dental will get their own operation theatres.

Adequate nursing staff, professors, assistant professors, associate professors and anaesthesiologists have also been appointed for the OTS. AIIMS management has also increased the number of beds in view of increasing number of patients at the trauma centre, TB and medicines departments. The number of beds at the trauma centre has been increased by 10 to 34. The number of beds at the TB ward has been increased to 60 from 30. At the same time, 20 beds have been added at the medicines department, which now will have 110 beds. Sources also said that by next year, radioactive cancer treatment of brachytherapy will also be provided at AIIMS. For this, a machine worth Rs12 crore has been ordered from the US.-Times Of India
