Aurobindo Pharma Unit-XV Gets Clearance From Malta Drug Regulator

The drug regulator of Malta has issued a good manufacturing certificate to Aurobindo Pharma Ltd’s unit-XV located in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, following an inspection on Feb 3.

Malta’s Medicines Authority has certified that the company’s facility conforms with the good manufacturing standards of the regulator, a copy of the certificate accessed by Cogencis showed.

The certificate allows the drug maker to export formulations to Malta and other members of the European Union for the next three years.

Although, Malta is not one of the key markets for the company within the European Union, continued supply to the country ensures that the company can get stronger foothold in the region, said analysts.

The European Union is a key growth region for the company especially in the light of the slowdown in sales growth in the US, the world’s largest drug market by value.

Aurobindo Pharma has said it has potential market opportunity of $5 bln or more in the coming three years, while it sees drugs with sales worth $13 bln coming off patents in the medium term.

In the nine months to December, the company clocked sales of 36.5 bln rupees in Europe, making it the company’s second largest market. – Cogencis
