Blood Donation Camps and Awareness Talks Mark Doctor’s Day

It was a day to celebrate the doctors and events were held across the city to commemorate the special day. A suburban branch of the Indian Medical Association in association with a community organization (Rotary Club) had organized a blood donation camp on the occasion of Doctor’s day, at central railway station’s platform number 1. Mumbaiites, railway commuters and even doctors participated in this event for a noble cause. The Rajawadi Blood Bank collected the bottles at the end of the day. Savita Mohan, an activist said, “Despite it being a Sunday we have seen a tremendous response. The oldest donor today was 63 years old.” The event inaugurated by Rajeshwari Kori, an ex-navy officer, who is at present working with the state government, saw a lot of youngsters walking in to support the cause of the special day.

Rajeshwari who was in charge of logistic supply during 1997 war in a warship, was the first lady officer to do so. She was given a veteran award for same in 2008 and holds the Limca Records too. She clicked pics with the first donors of the day at this event. Dr Ramesh Punjani, a senior doctor and laparoscopic surgeon, one among the organizers said, “Our initiative began successfully. I was the second person to donate today. Even as early as 10 am there was a large number of people waiting to donate blood. We are hoping to collect around 200 bags at least.” CK Mohan Iyer another organizer and a part of the community club, said, “It is great the see the fabulous responses at this event. There are so many college students, youngsters who are very passionate about this cause for the benefit of the society.” – TOI
