Centre gives nod for AIIMS at Darbhanga

The Centre has approved the site for developing another All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bihar at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The Centre’s nod to the proposal came after the state government informed it that DMCH is not a heritage site. The Union ministry of health and family welfare sent its approval letter to the state government on January 10. In the letter, addressed to the state health department principal secretary Sanjay Kumar, the Centre has asked the state to connect the selected site to NH-56, take steps for construction of a rail over bridge and arrange for 20mw of electricity which is required for the functioning of the institute.

In the letter, the state government has also been told to bear the cost of land filling on the site, make a bio-medical waste plant near the institute and ensure that proper sewage and effluent waste disposal facilities are available at the site.
