Chennai hospitals begin preparations for Covid-19 second wave, try to rope in doctors from other districts

As the city’s coronavirus caseload is now seeing a spike, the government medical college hospitals in the city have started preparing for the second wave that is likely to hit the city. Reports suggest that these hospitals have begun adding more beds and the plans to retain house surgeons and final year PG doctors are on.

Reports further suggest that the Kilpauk Medical College had brought down its bed quantity after the coronavirus cases in the city had begun to decrease. However, the bed capacity is being restored again with the sudden rise in the cases again.

A doctor while speaking to a media house said that they want to be as prepared as possible for the upsurge in the coronavirus cases. The hospitals are also redying floors in case the number of patients increases and have to be shifted to different floors.

Officials have also said that they are trying to rope in doctors from other districts who are willing to work in Chennai and lend a hand in the treatment of coronavirus patients. Meanwhile, an expert committee that met to analyse the Covid-19 situation in the city said that the spike in cases is due to the negligent behaviour of the public.

The experts also credited ‘Covid-fatigue’ for the rise in the number of coronavirus cases and said that people should not be touting the coronavirus rules and regulations, should continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Times Now
