Complex Heart Valve Surgeries Performed at Citizens Hospital

Surgeons from Citizens Hospital, Hyderabad said they conducted complicated heart valve replacement surgeries on two patients. The surgeons said that due to the risks involved in taking up an open-heart surgery, they decided to conduct a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) surgery on a patient named Jaffer from Hyderabad. The doctors also conducted an Aortic Valve Replacement surgery on another patient Raju from Medak district. The TAVR procedure is an aortic valve replacement procedure, which is usually carried out on patients who can’t undergo an open-heart surgery due to the risks involved. According to Dr Sudheer Koganti and Dr A Vikram Reddy, the TAVR surgeries were complicated procedures and it took anywhere between eight hours and 12 hours to complete the procedures. The families of both the patients raised funds for the expensive surgeries by seeking help from Irrigation Minister, Harish Rao, while the hospital administration also chipped-in with financial assistance, according to a press release. – Telangana Today
