Concern Over Improper Disposal of Medical Waste

Expressing concern over the merging of medical wastes with the other wastes, Collector Kartikeya Misra on Friday advised the officials of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) to conduct awareness camps for hospital managements on following the biomedical waste management rules, besides making arrangements for collecting the hospital waste. The issue came for a detailed discussion at the district-level monitoring committee, where Misra observed that there were about 600 hospitals spread all over the district and there was an immediate need to put a system in place for the collection and disposal of biomedical wastes. He asked the revenue divisional officers and the commissioners of municipalities and municipal corporations to take steps for conducting awareness programs at the divisional and municipality level with the help of the officials of the APPCB. Environmental engineer from APPCB A. Rama Rao Naidu, District Medical and Health Officer T.S.R. Murthy, principal of the Rangaraya Medical College R. Mahalakshmi were present. – The Hindu
