Deloitte Earns Four Contracts to Help States Implement Modular Medicaid Systems

Four states recently awarded Deloitte contracts to help their agencies implement a systems integration solution for their modular Medicaid enterprise systems. Deloitte’s HealthInteractive Platform is a recognized, cloud-based product to meet state MES needs and beyond. It includes pre-defined application programming interfaces (APIs) allowing states to effectively connect and deploy both current and future system modules. It is also flexible and extensible to integrate additional modules across the state enterprise. “Virginia is taking a strategic approach to this project that will empower us to be innovative and responsive to the needs of our members and our taxpayers,” said Dr. Jennifer S. Lee, director of the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS). “As we navigate the changing landscape of the healthcare sector and regulatory environment, it is essential that we possess the infrastructure to adapt to these evolving demands while preserving and enhancing our mission to provide access to health coverage for more than one million Virginians.”

“As we developed our MES HealthInteractive Platform, we recognized that states implementing new CMS guidelines need a more flexible and extensible system,” said Brian Erdahl, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and leader of Deloitte’s Medicare & Medicaid Enterprise Systems (MMES) market offering. “We designed this platform specifically for the new modular MES implementation lifecycle, helping guide our clients’ integration efforts and allowing them to accelerate their implementations.” Deloitte built its platform on the IBM Cloud utilizing IBM’s enterprise software including IBM Cloud for VMware solutions. IBM Cloud facilitates deployment on-premises, off-premises, or in a hybrid model. “Adopting a cloud strategy can help states accelerate the transformation of Medicaid management information systems from large and monolithic systems into modular, interoperable solutions,” said Stephen Smith, General Manager of IBM Cloud North America. “The HealthInteractive Platform on the IBM Cloud is designed to help states increase agility, security and performance.”

Each of the four states is working closely with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a roadmap for transitioning from a legacy system to a modular, interoperable solution. For each state, Deloitte was selected as the systems integration contractor. This role includes formulating a module integration plan to migrate to a modular and interoperable environment. Deloitte has served U.S. public sector clients for more than 45 years with 40 years of Medicaid and commercial healthcare experience. Deloitte is a top-rated state and local government and healthcare consulting practice by analysts such as ALM Intelligence, Gartner, and International Data Corporation. Besides leading the MES market forward, Deloitte’s state health practice has delivered some of the largest and most complex public sector technology systems — from integrated eligibility systems to health insurance exchanges and health information exchanges. – Medical Buyer Bureau
