Dr J A Jayalal elected IMA president

Dr J A Jayalal, a government medical practitioner from Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, has been elected the national president of the Indian Medical Association, a professional body of doctors with around four lakh doctors as members.

Dr Jayalal is a professor of surgery in Tirunelveli Medical College. He will take over from Dr Rajan Sharma on December 27. Considering the challenges that lie ahead for doctors amid the new education policy and the National Medical Commission, Dr Jayalal said that the IMA would work towards restoring the sanctity of modern medicine.
