Dr. Moopen’s Medical College commissions PMR department

In a significant step towards addressing the needs of people struggling to regain a normalcy after disability, Dr. Moopen’s Medical College provides the services of comprehensive Multi- disciplinary Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Department. This department aims to provide expert care, early interventions, and holistic support to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Dr. Moopen’s Medical College recognizes the pressing need for effective and timely interventions, particularly in the face of rising lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, strokes, amputations, and ischaemic heart diseases.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Dr. Moopen’s Medical College adopts a holistic approach, spearheaded by an interdisciplinary team led by Dr Babeesh Chacko, Consultant, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The department provides OP-based services such as Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (Chronic Pain) programs for individuals with impairments to musculoskeletal diseases, chronic pain, mechanical joint pains, and inflammatory joint pains. Amputee Rehabilitation for individuals who have lost a limb, focusing on the use of prosthetics and returning to high levels of social integration through pre-prosthetic and prosthetic training and Diabetic foot Rehabilitation for diabetic patients, addressing foot ulceration through a combination of medical treatment and footwear modification.

Inpatient based services Rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury, Stroke Rehabilitation, Brain Injury Rehabilitation addressing the psychosocial and physical problems associated with traumatic brain injuries and Pediatric Rehabilitation for children (Conditions like Cerebral palsy) with impaired functioning due to injury, illness, or chronic conditions.

The centre also provides the most effective Regenerative therapy and Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) where platelet-rich plasma from a patient’s blood sample, is created and injected into the target area. Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) is a form of regenerative medicine that harnesses and amplifies the natural growth factors found in our blood cells to help heal damaged tissue. It is effective for some patients in enhancing the ability to heal and recover from injury and joint pains.
