Department of Sociology, Panjab University, in collaboration with city-based NGO Open Eyes Foundation, organised a lecture on ‘Involvement of Youth in Social Work and Social Problems ‘ here yesterday.
Prof Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, laid emphasis on the significance of selfless work for the nation. Dr Rani Mehta, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, highlighted the need for providing better education and good healthcare, especially to the deprived sections of society and women, through voluntary efforts.
Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor, Sociology, focused on various aspects of involving youth in social work. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, discussed various programmes of the foundation such as distributing free books among children and sanitary napkins among adolescent girls across the city.
