GMC Gets Advanced CR Equipment

Government Medical College (GMC), Thiruvananthapuram, will switch to complete digital X-ray facility with the installation of two computed radiography (CR) equipment at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. The hospital already has a 5DR X-ray machine and with the addition of new machines, GMC will become one among the few medical colleges in India with digital X-ray facility. The machines will do away with the need for X-ray film processing and prints can be taken with more clarity and without delay. Ten innovative facilities are being introduced at GMC as part of the first phase of comprehensive project to install 35 healthcare services. Minister for health and social justice K K Shailaja will inaugurate the facilities at the hospital at 11am on Wednesday. The minister said that projects envisaged to the tune of Rs 317 crore in the master plan are being implemented.

Prepaid ambulance facility at GMC will be extended to Sree Avittam Tirunal Hospital, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and Regional Cancer Center as part of introducing a slew of new facilities at GMC. The ambulance facility aims at ensuring service for patients at an affordable rate. The facility was introduced on an experimental basis and the service is now being extended based on the success of the trial run. The minister will inaugurate the construction works of Rs 25-crore linear accelerator (LINAC) block for radiation therapy for cancer patients. LINAC block will house linear accelerator, computed tomography simulator and brachy therapy machine. The second cobalt machine, being installed at a cost of Rs 2.8 crore, will also be made functional within two months. Six biogas plants have also been set up at a cost of Rs 93 lakh. – TOI
