Government Gears up to Curb Swine Flu

With rains lashing the state, health department is apprehensive that swine flu and scrub typhus cases might resurface in the state. The health department has geared up to prevent spread of the disease in the state. The health department has issued direction to its officials to remain prepared to prevent for swine flu and scrub typhus. A review meeting of seasonal diseases was held at the health department recently, in which officials expressed fear of diseases such as scrub typhus and swine flu might resurface in the state during monsoon. Scrub typhus is caused by bite of a mite, which is found in grassy land and cases of scrub typhus increases during monsoon. It is a rickettsia disease transmitted to humans by mites. Besides, the health department has alerted officials on swine flu. In the state, early this year, swine flu had taken a toll on health of the people. Rajasthan had reported highest number of swine flu cases in first four months of the year. Moreover, the health department will launch its three-day campaign — hamara swasthya hamari zimmedari, against seasonal diseases from Monday. Under the campaign, the health department officials will conduct door-to-door survey of houses in urban areas of the state. – TOI
