Government Intends to Provide Free Insulin at Health Centers

In what could come as a major relief to persons suffering from high diabetes, the government plans to provide them with insulin at every health center. This was announced by health minister Vishwajit Rane after inaugurating the Emergency Care Center for Rural Medical Dispensary at Keri, Sattari. The government has commenced five emergency care centers at various places in the state, he said. The government aims to provide better medical facilities to citizens at the grassroots level in their vicinity so that they can avail of medical treatment immediately in times of emergencies like cardiac diseases. The function was organized by the Directorate of Health Services in association with GVK Emergency Management & Research Institute. Rane said the opening of the emergency care center in various parts of the state is a step towards strengthening infrastructure in the health sector.

Rane also said that the government spends about Rs 60 crore every year towards free distribution of medicines in hospitals. Apart from this, the Deendayal Swasthya Seva Yojana health scheme has been implemented to ease the cost of treatment of major diseases, he said. Rane also said that the government intends to improve the life and health of the people, and therefore recently inaugurated the STEMI project at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. Director of health services, Dr Sanjiv Dalvi in his welcome address informed that the government’s endeavor is to provide necessary medical services to the citizens.
