Govt committed to setting up cardiac facility at South Goa District Hospital

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said the government will honour its commitment to set up a cardiac facility at the South Goa district hospital.

The Health Minister further said that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has been entrusted with the responsibility to look after the upkeep of the South district hospital, including the non-functioning lifts.

“The government is taking one step at a time to put up the best medical facilities at the South Goa district hospital. The cardiac super specialty facility is getting ready at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. We have ordered three cath labs for the super specialty. Once this facility is put in place at the GMC, the government will get to work to set up a cardiac facility at the South Goa district hospital,” he said.

The Health Minister also briefed Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar on the free medical facilities offered at the government-run hospitals, including cancer treatment.

When the Union Minister inquired why the government is not pursuing the concept of medical tourism in the State, Rane replied saying efforts are being made in that direction.

As far as the non-functioning lifts in the South Goa district hospital, the Health Minister said the GSIDC will look into the issue. The Goan Everyday
