Govt Rajindra Hospital’s Super Speciality Ward Delayed Further

The much-awaited Rs 150-crore super specialty centre of the Government Rajindra Hospital, which has already missed several deadlines, will not be functional at least until a month.

Apart from numerous infrastructural deficiencies, the super speciality ward, which consists of different departments, including intensive care unit, is yet to be equipped with advanced machines.

To oversee the progress, DK Tiwari, Principal Secretary, Research and Medical Education, along with the state’s top bureaucrats of the Health Ministry, held an hour-long meeting with all stakeholders here at the Government Medical College (GMC).

The meeting was also attended by Dr Harjinder Singh, Principal, Government Medical College, and Dr Avnish Kumar, Director Research and Medical Education (DRME).

After the meeting, DK Tiwari, along with Jatinder Arora, Director, Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, Arundhati Kandwal from HLL Infratech Services Limited and officials from Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC), visited the super speciality centre and inspected each floor.

During the inspection, Dr Harjinder apprised DK Tiwari of the potential deficiencies at the centre. DK Tiwari was seen getting a little upset over the colour and asymmetrical tiles of flooring at one of the floors of the centre. While taking stock of the situation, Tiwari even once threatened the concerned officer of blacklisting for deficiencies.

In the meantime, officials at the hospital told The Tribune that the centre was lacking a sewage treatment plant (STP), machines, entry gate, oxygen supply plant and drainage system.

Talking to The Tribune, DK Tiwari said: “It will take at least one more month to get the centre operational. There has been a delay from the company, HLL, which is supposed to provide the imported machinery. I have already directed the officials concerned to complete the deficiencies as soon as possible.”

Tiwari said he had already asked the Principal for any other demands pertaining to the remaining work. “The Principal will soon hold meetings about the remaining work at the centre. Moreover, I have already asked him (Principal) to submit the requirements of paramedical staff,” said Tiwari.

When asked about the delay, Tiwari said of course, it took longer time. However, he had been continuously visiting the centre and efforts were being made to start it at the earliest.

GMC Principal Dr Harjinder Singh said: “As soon the remaining work is done, we will take the possession of the floors, which will be fully functional. We are committed to starting the centre and treating patients as soon as possible.” – The Tribune
