Himcare dues reach Rs 354 crore in Himachal; scheme to be reformed

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said that the Himcare scheme, which provides a cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to a family, will not be stopped but reformed.

In response to a question on Himcare in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the scheme had been stopped in private hospitals as complaints of irregularities were received.

“Our Cabinet Sub-Committee is looking into the matter. We will move ahead as per the recommendations of the Sub-committee,” he said. The Chief Minister said that complaints of overcharging by some private hospitals were received, and the Sub-Committee was looking into it.

Sukhu said Rs 227 crore and Rs 127 crore was pending under Himcare Scheme of government and private hospitals, respectively.

Responding to the question on the Sahara scheme, the Chief Minister said it was a good scheme started by the previous government but this too was being misused.

“The scheme is for the patients suffering with chronic diseases but some ineligible people too were claiming it by making forged documents,” the CM added.

He said the government institutions were being strengthened by filling up vacant posts and providing state of the art equipment and machinery in government hospitals. Tribune India
