Hologic secures $179M army contract for coronavirus detection tools

Marlborough, Massachusetts-based medical technology company Hologic will supply COVID-19 diagnostic tools to the U.S. Army under a three-year, $178.5 million contract.

The Army’s Health Contracting Activity ordered Panther Fusion and Aptima SARS-CoV-2 assays, multiplex test kits and various related consumable items through the firm-fixed-price contract, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Panther Fusion is an in vitro diagnostic system designed to confirm the presence of RNA from SARS-CoV-2 from upper respiratory specimens.

Aptima multitest kits are intended to help clinicians collect throat and nasal swab specimens for use in company-built coronavirus detection technology.

The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization to Hologic’s testing products. Gov Con Wire
