Hyderabad: Katriya Group Forays Into Healthcare With 999-Beds Hospital

Hyderabad-based Katriya Group, which was into hospitality sector, has forayed into the healthcare industry by creating a new hospital in Nizampet, near Bachupally, Hyderabad, that will have 999-beds capacity, when fully operational.

A new entity SLG Hospitals has been created for this venture. This becomes the first mixed-used project in Hyderabad with hospital and hotel at one campus. The hospital, which will be implemented in three phases will have a total investment of Rs 350 crore. The entire project will be completed by 2022 creating 1,500 jobs. It will be spread over four acres with over 10 lakh sq ft built up area.

Dandu Siva Rama Raju, chairman, Katriya Group said, “The hospital will have a built up area of 9 lakh sq ft while the hotel will have 1.5 lakh sq ft.”

SLG Hospitals executive director DVS Soma Raju told Telangana Today, “Medical tourism is going to be the core focus of the hospital. We are seeking accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI) that will enable this. We will look at Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the Middle East as well as African countries in attracting overseas patients. We will also serve patients who come from other parts of India, particularly from North East where advanced medical care is lacking.”

The company expects National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) certification within a year’s time and the JCI certification in 18 months from now.

Collaborations

When asked if the hospital will look at participating in clinical trials conducted by pharmaceutical companies, Soma Raju said, “We are surrounded by several pharmaceutical companies in Hyderabad. A lot of research and drug discovery is happening in the life sciences space. We will take part in the clinical trials. We are already recruiting staff for this purpose. We will closely work the pharmaceuticals industry.”

The company will also explore collaborations with companies and medical schools, globally. Currently talks are in progress with a couple of medical schools in the US and UK. These ties will be finalised soon.

Infrastructure

The first phase of the project has been completed with an investment of Rs 250 crore. The hospital has created 550 beds as a part of the first phase employing over 400 personnel. There are 42 different specialties now, and once the project is fully completed about 75 specialties will be available, including oncology, cardiology and renal care, A Rampapa Rao, CEO, SLG Hospitals said.

On the efforts to control hospital infections, which is a growing concern in the healthcare sector, Soma Raju said, “We see that infections usually happen in intensive care units (ICUs) and operation theatres. We have segregated the operation theatres based on specialties removing the scope for inspection. We have 11 operation theatres and one ICU. In our 150-bed ICU, we have created isolation chambers. All these efforts are going to address the possibility of infections.”

In addition to the hospital, the project will have a 120-room hotel, nursing and hotel management colleges, helipad for air ambulance, health club and a 0.5 MW solar power plant for captive purpose. The hotel will be ready by March 2020, allowing families of patients to stay there. The property will also be used to conduct medical conferences, seminars and training for medical staff.

The helipad will be ready in the next three months. The colleges will open their first batches next year. – Telangana Today
