India may once again see high-end stents placement market go up
Many global stent brands withdrew their high-end devices from the Indian market after the Standing National Committee on Medicines capped the price of stents in 2022, and coronary stents became part of the National List of Essential Medicines. Since then, the MoHFW has been under pressure to create a sub-category of stents with advanced features at a higher ceiling price and trade margin rationalisation. The ICMR, NPPA, and DCGI have also been recommending this.
An announcement regarding this is in the offing.
The approximate cost of a heart stent placement in India is $2500 -$8500 (Rs 2,00,000—Rs 7,00,000), as against $11,000 to $41,000 or more, for instance, in the US. Why would the government deny this business to Indian hospitals from overseas patients?
