Legislators Seek Upgraded PHCs, More Trauma Centers

AIADMK MLAs on Wednesday sought upgradation of medical facilities in their constituencies and setting up of accident trauma centers. The legislators, who spoke in the Assembly, also sought introduction of new long-distance bus routes covering their constituencies. During the Question Hour, R Thamizhselvan (Perambalur) urged the State government to upgrade the Elambalur primary health center. Thamizhselvan also said that the place was located close to a highway and accident cases were being rushed to the primary health center (PHC), which did not have adequate facilities for such treatment. Perundurai MLA Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam requested the government to set up an accident trauma care center in his constituency since it was located close to a four-way highway.

Since the hospital present there was constructed some 25 years ago, there was a need to upgrade to meet the present day demands. J.K.N. Ramajeyalingam of Jayankondam constituency too requested the government to establish an accident trauma center since there was no orthopedic surgeon in the hospital. Health and Family Welfare Minister C. Vijaya Baskar said that the State government was taking efforts to upgrade several primary health centers in various parts of the State and 72 accident trauma care centers were being set up in various places at a total cost of ₹190 crore. – The Hindu
