Smart Diagnostics, Bridging Gaps, Transforming Healthcare-A review
Assocham organized a Conference on Diagnostics 2024 on the theme ‘Smart Diagnostics: Bridging Gaps, Transforming Healthcare’ in the Capital.

At the conference, Chief Guest Dr (Prof.) V K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog said, “Promoting Atmanirbhar Bharat in manufacturing can make India a hub for diagnostics. Medtech Mitra is an overarching and inclusive initiative launched by ICMR to encourage more regulatory-aligned and sustainable innovation in diagnostics for national and global markets. It provides end-to-end guidance from ideation to delivery for start-ups and organizations expanding into diagnostics. He added that advanced diagnostic equipment is needed to diagnose the early signs of a condition or disease. Frontline technology and individual care with integrated systems also need to be improved.”
Delivering his keynote address Dr Jitendra Sharma, MD & Founder CEO, AMTZ Ltd. focused on how private consultation within the healthcare industry increasingly uses AI variables to revolutionize diagnostics. The democratization of diagnosis through technology ensures that advanced healthcare becomes accessible to all, regardless of location. We can accelerate this transformation by embracing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, integrating private expertise and public resources to create scalable, sustainable diagnostic solutions. He added, “Together, these innovations are shaping the future of healthcare, driving efficiency, reducing costs, and improving patient outcomes across the nation.”
In his address, Dr. Harsh Mahajan, Founder & Chairman of Mahajan Imaging & Labs, talked about how Integrated diagnostics, which combines pathology, lab medicine, microbiology, and radiology, is rapidly gaining traction as the ideal approach for healthcare. The vision is to move toward a unified diagnostic model where a single diagnosis streamlines patient care. With advancements in deep learning and machine learning, this future is within reach, empowering faster and more accurate healthcare solutions. Supported by the Make in India initiative, we have the potential to not only revolutionize healthcare delivery but also position India as a global leader in integrated diagnostics and cutting-edge medical technologies.
In his welcome address, Dr Ravi Gaur, Conference Chairman, Founder, and Director of DRG Path Lab, said, “Bridging the gap between rural and urban healthcare demands innovative solutions that combine cutting-edge digital technology with smart diagnostics.” In today’s evolving landscape, service tools and manufacturing advancements are critical, but they must be paired with intelligent diagnostics to unlock their potential truly. The focus on tier 1 and tier 2 cities highlights the need for scalable, accessible healthcare solutions that cater to diverse populations.
Vineet Gupta, Chairman – National Council for Medical Devices and Diagnostics & Head- Government Affairs, Siemens Healthineers, shared how diagnostics form a crucial pillar of India’s healthcare strategy, accounting for 16% of hospital expenses. The rising prevalence of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, increased per capita income, and expanded medical insurance coverage are driving this sector’s growth. The future lies in harnessing IT infrastructure, AI, and faster, more accurate diagnostics to improve access and reduce human error.
