Multi-Specialty Block at MCH to Offer Top-Notch Facilities

World-class facilities await patients at the new multi-specialty block, which will be will be inaugurated at the Medical College Hospital on November 29. This is the first time that a multi-specialty block is being set up in a public sector hospital of the state. The new block will house regional geriatric center, a first-of-its-kind initiative in a government medical college. It will function on the ground floor. Two wards have been set apart for geriatric department, which will exclusively cater to the health issues of the aged. Health minister K K Shailja said the facilities at this new block will provide quality services and state-of-the-art treatment. The block will house ICUs of several specialty and super specialty departments. The ICU units in this block have a bed-strength of 102 with ventilator facilities. Apart from this 44 high-care beds have also been made available for critically ill patients.

Poly-trauma wings of general surgery and neuro surgery departments will also function here. The cardiac ICU has been shifted to this new block from the old building. A state-of-the-art cardiothoracic surgery theatre will also function in this seven-storey block. The most modern mortuary will function in the cellar of this new building, which will have the capacity to keep 48 dead bodies at a time. In addition, it will also have a facility to conduct three post-mortems at a time. An inquest room for police officials and a classroom for forensic students have also been arranged here. The poly-trauma wing will function in the first floor. The multi-disciplinary ICUs have been set up in the second floor and the cardiology unit in the third floor. The cardiothoracic surgery wing is in the fourth floor of this new block. CM Pinarayi Vijayan will formally inaugurate the block on Thursday. – TOI
