Oncquest Laboratories Organize Seminar on World Cancer Day

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Oncquest Laboratories, one of the leading pathology labs in India, organized a seminar on Thursday on “Tackling the Rising Burden of Cancer: Time to Act Together” in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. This joint initiative of Oncquest and FICCI, for whom the quality and affordable healthcare, is the top-most priority, brought together all the stakeholders from healthcare industry to encourage the best practices and technological advancement in cancer care as well as spread awareness on the various kinds of cancer, their prevention and importance of early detection. Exclusively themed on “#IAmAndIWill”, this one-day seminar highlighted cancer as a public health challenge for the nation. It emphasized on that fact the awareness, preventive measure can lead to early diagnosis and can help in minimizing the growing threat of cancer. The seminar brought together around 600 participants including clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and community activists, who were determined to provide best-in-class cancer detection, prevention, diagnosis, treatment with advanced and affordable technologies.

The multiple insightful panel discussions were led by Aditya Burman, Director, Oncquest Laboratories Ltd, Dr Santanu Sen, MP, Rajya Sabha and National President, IMA, Binod Kumar, Secretary, Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, Dr. Mammen Chandy, Director of Tata Medical Center, Kolkata and others. The panel discussions focused on understanding the public health challenge of cancer in India, saving lives with awareness, prevention, early detection and diagnosis, and developing a roadmap for affordable cancer care made the seminar more inclusive and futuristic. In 2018, cancer took 784,821 lives and over 2,258,208 people still live with cancer as per the recent data. Amongst many, breast, cervical, lung, and oral cancer are the most predominant cancers which account for nearly 40 percent of the total cancer burden. As awareness is the key savior, Oncquest Lab took this initiative to bring the medical scholars and experts together so that everyone gets to know and realize his/her contribution in reducing the cancer burden of India. Apart from these engaging and solicitous discussions, a painting competition in various schools on cancer awareness were also organized, and awards were given to the winners for their thought-provoking art. – United News of India
