Panchkula Civil Hospital Opens Wing for Treatment of the Elderly

The Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, has created a new wing, Sarthi, for the treatment of senior citizens. Those finding difficulty in walking will be taken to the doctor on a wheel chair by the hospital attendants. Besides, various tests, for which they required to move to other parts of the hospital earlier, would be conducted at the new wing. Notably, more than 200 senior citizens visit the hospital for treatment every day. Timings for medical examination at the wing will be from 8 am to 1 pm. Satosh Devi (68), a resident of Rihod village in Raipur Rani block, said earlier she had to move from one hospital ward to another to consult a doctor and her children hesitated accompanying her to the hospital due to the cumbersome procedure. She said now she was able to come to the hospital on her own and consult the doctor at the Sarthi wing on the ground floor of the hospital.

Another patient (76), who is suffering from prostate, said he could not walk due to arthritis. He lauded the hospital staff for making such arrangements. Principal Medical Officer Dr Mankirat Murara said earlier patients had to wait in long lines to consult a doctor or getting tests done. She said now they would not have to move from one ward to another. When a patient wants to return, the hospital attendant will drop him or her at the hospital gate. She further said that senior citizens would get their test conducted in the wing and they would be provided medicines at the same place. Dr Murara said around 4000 patients visited the hospital every day, which includes around 200 senior citizens.
