Philips India Keen to Double Personal Health Business

Philips India aims to double its personal health business in the next 3-4 years by strengthening its presence in new categories besides launching new products within its existing categories. ADA Ratnam, President, Personal Health, Philips Indian sub-continent, said, “We want to double the size of the personal health business in the next 3-4 years. Oral healthcare is a big business for us globally. We would like to introduce products in the country with a strong focus on Indian consumer needs. We also want to strengthen our presence in the coffee machines business.”

The company is also looking to add new segments in the beauty category. It is also mulling a re-entry in the water purifiers business through a licensing agreement in the long-term. The Dutch major has been on a launch spree in the country this year. It introduced nearly 30 launches in terms of new products and variants in categories such as food processors, air fryers, air purifiers and garment care. “We want to be ahead of the consumer curve and step up our game. The life cycle of our products has come down dramatically from 7-8 years to about 3-4 years,” he added.

India is among the top ten markets for the personal health business of Philips globally. “Our dream is to become among the top eight markets in the next 3-4 years,” Ratnam added. This year so far, the company’s personal health division grew by about 12-15 percent. Ratnam said that nearly all the categories are driving this growth. For instance: The company has nearly doubled its air-purifiers business in the past 15 months by widening its distribution. “We have expanded our distribution for air-purifiers beyond the top metros to about 20 cities and launched a national TV campaign with brand ambassador Rahul Dravid to spread awareness,” he added. – The Hindu BusinessLine
