Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on January 12 to inaugurate 11 new medical colleges in the state by sharing the stage with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. This is the first time PM Modi is set to visit the state after the DMK-led government took over the governance.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, the Prime Minister is expected to open 11 medical colleges in the state which was set up with funds from the Centre and the state. The 11 medical colleges are set to open in districts including Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Nilgiris, Tiruvallur, Tirupur, Ariyalur and Kalakurichi.

Each of the medical colleges is set to have 150 medical seats and overall the scheme has created over 1650 medical seats in the state.

However, as soon as the schedule was made public, many Tamil Nadu people took to social media to trend #GoBackModi.

Meanwhile, a source told TOI that Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will also be present at the event.

The nod to set up the colleges was received during the previous AIADMK government regime under the union government scheme. Hence, the union and state governments contributed 60% and 40% cost for setting up the scheme and each of the colleges was set up at the cost of Rs 325.

With the additional seats, the state will have the maximum number of MBBS seats in the country from the next academic year, said TOI. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said that the DMK-led government plans to set up at least one medical college in each district and to create PG specialization in all medical colleges with UG courses.
