Poly Lead from Poly Medicure Ltd.

Polymed was founded back in 1997 with a small team and a challenging business environment, but with a well-defined vision to serve people through innovative healthcare solutions and make medical devices more affordable for the healthcare community. For last 25 years, they have led the way with purpose-driven healthcare technology. Today, Polymed is the largest exporter of consumable medical devices from India for the last 9 years in a row. Their products are present in more than 120 countries, and the strong distribution channel stands as a true testament to their position of one of the leading MedTech players globally. It has been successfully serving the medical community, attributing to its strong commitment to the core values of integrity, ownership, care, learning, and inclusivity.

As a leader in the medical devices manufacturing industry, Polymed is at the forefront of meeting the surging demand that arises in the industry. Huge advancements have taken place in the last few decades in the area of vascular technology. Achieving reliable venous access in a particular subset of patients or in emergency settings can be challenging and time-consuming. With its team of experts in infusion therapy and focused research, Polymed has resulted in providing mini midline catheter, Poly Lead – OTW, especially designed to address the vascular access needs in acute care settings.

Mini midline is recommended to patients that, for many different reasons (clinical situation, underlying diseases, difficulty of cannula placement, issues related to the length of the therapy, and all the possible complications connected to the therapy itself), require a device for repeated blood sampling, I.V administration of fluids/drugs/chemotherapeutic agents etc. Though an IV cannula can be used for peripheral IV cannulation or EJ catheterization, they have their own procedural limitations like:

  • Air embolism-at the time of catheter placement or removal;
  • Difficulty of cannula placement:
      • cervical spine injury where neck positioning is compromised;
      • In head-and-neck surgeries, extreme rotation of the neck that can lead to blockage of EJV and catheter placement;
  • Thrombus dislodgement and embolism following catheter placement – in patients with idiopathic EJV thrombosis (example – in cervical trauma, infection, and neck malignancies); and
  • Presence of tracheostomy or cervical collar hinders cannula placement and access.

To overcome all these challenges and for better PIV cannulation, EJ catheterization Poly Lead (Mini Mid Line Catheters) should be used.

Some of the key features of Poly Lead are:

  • Indwelling catheter. Advanced polyurethane catheter with soft tip assures better bio-compatibility, provides desired strength during insertion.
  • Kink-resistant flexible ‘straight’ tip guide wire. Made of nickel and titanium (Nitinol) provides flexibility while insertion.
  • Needle-free connector. Provides closed system and reduces the risk of catheter-related blood stream infections.
  • Securement device. Provides efficient catheter stabilization.

The kit components of Poly Lead include:

  • Mini midline catheter;
  • Introducer needle;
  • Nitinol guidewire (straight);
  • Securement device;
  • Wound IV dressing;
  • Needle-free connector;
  • Dilator; and
  • Drape.

Polymed offers a wide range of infusion therapy products – from IV cannulas and IV infusion sets to central venous catheters and needle-free connectors. With its emphasis on cutting-edge technology and a vision of serving people through innovative healthcare solutions, Polymed aims at providing global standards of care with high-quality and affordable medical devices.

The company constantly continues to expand its portfolio of products with consistent R&D initiatives, investment in latest technologies, and by scaling up their manufacturing capabilities. Polymed has successfully been able to fulfil its promise of delivering safe, quality, and innovative medical devices to the medical community for 25 years now.
