Private hospitals to provide cadavers for transplant to govt hospitals

The Cabinet Wednesday took a significant decision related to organ transplants, making it mandatory for private retrieval hospitals to provide every second and fourth cadaver among the five it receives for transplants to government hospitals on priority.

Till now, every second and fourth of the five cadavers that a government retrieval hospital received for transplants had to be provided to private hospitals on priority.

The decision was taken in the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Government spokesperson and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel made the announcement.

An official release stated that following the change in policy, a balance will be struck between transplants in government and private hospitals.

Also, from now on, domicile certificate will not be mandatory for getting registered for organ transplant. Further, one will not have to pay any fees for the registration and a person of any age can get himself registered for organ transplant.

The health minister also announced that the 18th edition of Shala Praveshotsav (school enrollment drive) will be held in the state from June 12 to 14. Ministers as well as IAS, IPS and IFS officers will visit schools to get students enrolled in Bal Vatika and class I. The release said that while around 9.77 lakh students will take admission in Bal Vatika, over 2.3 lakh students will get admission in class I.

The minister further said that in-principle approval has been given to prepare the 10-year recruitment calendar of the state government between 2024
and 2033.

The 10-year recruitment calendar between 2014 and 2023 is going to end in December this year. The release said that during these 10 years, the state government has recruited 1.67 lakh candidates against its plan to recruit 1.56 lakh people.

In regard to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, Rushikesh Patel said the state has decided to cancel admissions of 621 students under RTE after discovering that they got enrolled by committing irregularity.

These students are from Bharuch district (33), Chhota Udepur (25), Gir Somnath (24), Jamnagar city (159), Kheda (92), Rajot (161), Sabarkantha (10), Valsad (14), Surat (33) and Surendranagar (70).

In the current year, 54,903 students have been admitted under RTE Act in the state in the first round.

The minister further said that World Environment Day will be celebrated at a state-level function at Ambaji in Banaskantha district on June 5. During the celebration, 10,000 trees, including mangroves, will be planted in Ahmedabad, Anand, Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Navsari, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Valsad and Surat. At some coastal areas, special shows on dolphins will be organised.

He added that while 60 per cent of the work on All India Institute of Medical Science in Rajkot has been completed, the institute would be ready by October this year. The Indian Express
