There are various methods available for detecting hemo­globin, a vital parameter to screen anemia. These methods can be broadly classified into invasive and non-invasive.

Invasive methods. Sahli’s method (the most popular manual method being performed in the laboratory), copper sulphate method, Hb color scale method, and methemoglobin method (recently used method for detecting hemoglobin level).

Non-invasive methods. Occlusion spectroscopy, pulse-cooximetry, and transcutaneous spectroscopy
