AIIMS Delhi is poised to leapfrog the technology divide by adopting cutting-edge processes and technology in all aspects of its operations. The major thrusts this year will be infrastructure development and IT implementation.

The overall budget for AIIMS in 2017-18 will exceed 4500 crore. Of this, a significant amount (>3000 crore) will be on infrastructure development and equipment purchases. This is in addition to the machinery and equipment procurement of National Cancer Institute at AIIMS Delhi’s second campus at Jajjhar amounting to 729 crore being planned for procurement this year.

The digitization of AIIMS continued to be a major priority with significant successes to its credit. Appointment system has been fully fledged in AIIMS which had a great impact. The impact of the project has been transformational for AIIMS and for healthcare in general. Spending in IT is projected to increase to over 100 crore in 2017-18 as compared to around 20 crore last year. Majority of this spending will be on development of new IT infrastructure as well as software deployment in the new blocks coming up in AIIMS campus as well as at its second campus at Jajjhar.

AIIMS, Delhi has the highest ratio of ICU beds to general beds amongst public-funded hospitals in India and will continue to invest heavily in critical care infrastructure this year too. In addition, it is planning to have modular OTs in the newly developed trauma block, mother-and-child block, surgical block as well as in orthopedic OT complex.

Radiology and radiotherapy equipment is also planned to be purchased significantly this year, especially for the National Cancer Institute at AIIMS Delhi’s second campus at Jajjhar.

With emphasis on purchasing equipment, which is industry standard as well as cost effective, AIIMS, Delhi remains a benchmark in public healthcare spending. It continues to provide quality treatment to patients in an extremely cost-effective and transparent manner.
