Roadmap 2019

It is said that when I is replaced with we, illness becomes wellness. India has a vast healthcare system, but there remain many differences in quality between rural and urban areas as well as between public and private healthcare. Over the past few decades, rapid economic growth has allowed millions of Indians to lift themselves out of poverty. But the lack of quality and affordable medical care has meant that millions continue to be deeply vulnerable to health shocks.

Tier-II and Tier-III cities still lack proper healthcare facilities. There is a huge gap between the healthcare facilities required and what is provided. We plan to establish the presence of Aditya Birla Hospital not only in Maharashtra but also across India in the form of a chain of multi-specialty hospital and also pharmacies. Our focus area will be in Tier-II and Tier-III cities in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Orissa amongst others. The key is to offer quality healthcare at affordable costs. We aim to become a single stop healthcare service provider for families and individuals backed by high-end technology. Since our inception, we have focused on technology. We are one of the best in terms of technology and infrastructure.

Highlight early prevention to avoid secondary intervention

Health has always been a critical issue for the developing nations and India is no exception. As a matter of fact, it is not easy to fulfill the daily health requirements of 1.32 billion people. Various government initiatives and programs have improved India’s statistics in life expectancy at birth and communicable disease. However, the burden of non-communicable disease is on the rise. According to the World Health Organization, in India, almost 61 percent of deaths are caused by non-communicable diseases.  Shortage of qualified doctors and hospital beds has worsened the problem. Cancer is one of the 10 leading causes of death in India and around 40 percent cases are due to tobacco consumption. Tobacco use is a leading cause of cancer and other non-communicable diseases. On World No Tobacco Day, we organized free health checkup for the auto rickshaw drivers of Pimpri- Chinchwad. More than 250 auto rickshaw drivers and their family members actively took part in the health checkup.

According to a government study, one in every eight Indian above 30 years of age is suffering from high blood pressure and only about 40 percent of urban Indians with hypertension know they have it, and only 20 percent are taking active measures to keep it in check. In order to educate people about blood pressure, we conducted free blood pressure checkup camp for citizens at 25 places across Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. More than 1500 people came forward and got their blood pressure checked.

Seven crore people globally have heart and paralysis strokes every year. On World Heart Day, the hospital flagged off an awareness campaign for people to find out how young is their heart. Moreover, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital’s cardiologist provided free consultation and proper guidance to the patients and special cardiology treatment packages were provided to internal staff and patients.

India is gradualley becoming the diabetic capital of the world. Diabetes if left untreated can lead to several short-term and long-term illnesses. On World Diabetes Day, we organized Walkathon, a silent rally consisting of placards and banners to spread awareness about diabetes, its causes, its prevention and the devastating effects it has on the human lives. We even conducted free random blood sugar checkup camps at more than 19 places.

At Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, we conduct free screening of 200+ pediatric patients every month and treat 20-25 patients diagnosed within stipulated period. Our focus is more on pediatric cases because these kids are the bright future of India. We intend to reach out to people from every walk of life to help them stay healthy and touch billions of lives. In 2019, the objective is to promote wellness and bring affordable and high quality healthcare to people’s doorsteps.
