Roadmap for 2018

Even as we enter into a brand-new year, with a fair amount of increase in awareness and development in cardiology, we still face one of the biggest epidemics of our times. With cardiac disease as one of the major causes of death and disability in the world, killing 17.5 million people a year and over 23 million predicted deaths by 2030, the reality is that cardiac diseases are one of the major causes of death across the world even today. The story in India specifically has been quite alarming as cardiac diseases have contributed to roughly 1.7 million deaths in 2016.

While growth of cardiac diseases is dependent on a number of reasons such as age, changing lifestyles, inappropriate eating habits, unavailability of adequate healthcare solutions, the high rate in resulting deaths can largely be attributed to either the lack of access to emergency medical services (EMS) or its quality, which is most times not as per expectations. It has been observed that most deaths during a heart failure occur due to inadequate EMS provided to patients. Several challenges such as exhaustion from executing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), transporting patients to the ambulance from the place of the event, and delivering CPR in the back of an ambulance impede providers from executing it correctly.

In such a scenario, an attempt has been made by Schiller to contribute in overcoming these difficulties through its latest launch, Easy Pulse – an automatic mechanical chest compression device for CPR. Easy Pulse is the solution for effective resuscitation. This portable, standalone device delivers chest compressions automatically at consistent rate and depth. It is directly attached to the patient’s upper body and can thus be used in any situation, regardless of ambient conditions. A high-quality uninterrupted chest compression can be guaranteed by this machine, even during transport. The CPR device weighs less than 3.5 kg, opening up entirely new possibilities, such as air rescue services.

Schiller has been supporting its customers by focusing on the need for modern medical technologies in cardiology. In its ongoing endeavor to increase its presence in the country, the company over the last couple of years has been offering a range of cardiac catheterization machines to the Indian market.

Schiller continues to work toward developing technical, management, and innovative approaches through new partnerships and bring in new ways to involve different stakeholders in the process. Going forward, it will introduce new methods and tools to overcome resource restrictions to improve effectiveness of monitoring techniques.
