Set-Up ESI Hospital at Kalinganagar Soon

Former Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai wrote to Union Labor and Employment Minister Santosh Gangwar requesting him to take appropriate steps for establishment of the proposed 200-bed ESI hospital at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district at the earliest. “Required land has been acquired and boundary wall has been constructed at Kalinganagar for the proposed ESI hospital decided by the Center in 2010. But the ESI Corporation of India has not yet initiated tender process. At present, a small hospital is functioning in a rented house with a few doctors, which doesn’t cater to the healthcare needs of the poor workers,” Ghadai mentioned.

Mentioning that Kalinganagar houses about 14 industries and is known as steel capital of India, Ghadai expressed concern that workers are now working in hazardous conditions and suffering from various diseases like cancer, kidney failure and jaundice due to absence of required healthcare. He urged the Minister to advise the Director General of the ESI Corporation to expedite the tender process so that construction of the ESI hospital building can start immediately. – The Pioneer
