Thural Civil Hospital to be Upgraded, to Have 75 More Beds, Says Minister

Health Minister Vipin Parmar on Friday announced to upgrade the Thural Civil Hospital to 100-bedded from 25-bedded at present. He said the decision had been taken keeping in view the demand of local residents. He said in the absence of a hospital nearby, residents were forced to travel to Palampur and the Tanda medical college.

The minister reiterated his commitment to streamline rural health services in the state. He alleged that rural health services had taken a back seat during the previous Congress regime.

Parmar, while addressing a public meeting, said the government was facing the challenge of filling the vacant posts of medical officers, specialists and super-specialists. He said they were making efforts to recruit more doctors across the state.

He said although the state government had provided adequate infrastructure in most rural health institutions, even normal cases were being referred to regional hospitals and medical colleges, causing inconvenience to the public. He asked doctors to discontinue this practice. He said only critical cases should be referred to higher health institutions.

“It is the need of the hour to strengthen primary health centres and community health centres in order to reduce the burden of regional hospitals and state medical colleges,” the minister said.

Parmar said it had come to their notice that the medicine and gynaecology departments were the worst affected where doctors were overburdened. He said more medical specialists and gynaecologists would be recruited.- The Tribune
