ViCentra’s Kaleido insulin pump features pulse technology

ViCentra recently announced that it made its Kaleido insulin pump system available for users in the Netherlands.

Utrecht, the Netherlands-based ViCentra designed its insulin pump system as a small, light and accurate platform. The company says the system “lets people with diabetes live life on their own terms.”

Kaleido features pulse technology that provides continuous micro-dosing of insulin. With a simple appearance — and 10 color combination options — the user can personalize their treatment in many ways.

Each user can choose to wear the discreet pump directly on the body or in its pocket when using its longer tubing option.

As of March 14, healthcare providers in the Netherlands can prescribe Kaleido.

“I am very happy we can announce that Kaleido is now available to more users in the Netherlands,” said ViCentra CEO Frans Cromme. “A highly engaged group of 70 users have been using Kaleido intensively in the last 12 months, providing feedback on both the product and our services, such as our training and our customer care team. We are very satisfied with the results, and are now ready to make Kaleido available to more people with diabetes.”

ViCentra said it invested heavily in recent months to increase production capacity. It moved to a new location in Utrecht with “certified modern production.”

Cromme said this move allows the company to supply Kaleido to “a large group of users in other European markets this year.” The company also plans to continue its growth to more than 150 employees in the Netherlands and abroad.

Later this year, ViCentra plans to make Kaleido available in combination with the DBLG1 system from Diabeloop. This advanced hybrid closed-loop system uses the Dexcom 6 CGM, too. MassDevice
