2 medical groups in Saudi Arabia achieve stage 7 digital maturity

King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been validated at the highest level of the HIMSS Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM), while Dr Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group in Al Khobar was awarded Stage 7 of the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), which measures the adoption and maturity of a health facility’s inpatient electronic medical record capabilities from 0 to 7.

The King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia has achieved Stage 7 of the AMAM, which measures the analytics capabilities healthcare organisations have gained from having a strong analytics strategy and competency, and advances in organisations’ healthcare analytics regardless of the technologies installed.

WHY IT MATTERS
Analytics serve to improve many facets of a healthcare business beyond clinical decision support, such as an organisation’s operational and financial aspects.

Regional director EMEA, HIMSS Analytics, John Rayner said: “I believe AMAM has so many critical dependencies, as such, achieving Stage 7 requires not only a hospital with extraordinary infrastructure and connected systems but also a hospital with connected people.”

THE LARGER CONTEXT
King Abdulaziz Medical City also achieved Stage 7 of the EMRAM in 2019. The same year it was validated at Stage 7 of the HIMSS Outpatient EMR Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) and became the first hospital to be validated at Stage 6 of the HIMSS Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM).

The centre under the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs became the first organisation in the world to reach Stage 6 of the HIMSS Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM) in 2017.

ON THE RECORD
King Abdulaziz Medical City executive director, Information Technology, Dr Raed Al Hazme, said: “We are deeply grateful for the invaluable guidance, expert recommendations, and best practices that you [HIMSS] has passed to us in this validation and over the years. This definitely has made a huge difference for the one million plus patients that we serve.”

Rayner said: “In successfully validating against the AMAM Stage 7 standards King Abdulaziz Medical City joins a group of approximately six organisations across the globe who have achieved Stage 7 in three or more of the HIMSS models. This is a fantastic achievement.”

Speaking of Dr Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group, Rayner added: “The hospitals clearly have a substantial amount of data which is displayed in a whole series of different places on over 300 dashboards. Providing a strong clinical and business analytics function is one of the most important features of a Stage 7 hospital. The group were able to present the analytics strategy placing a strong emphasis on governance as a critical aspect of the analytics programme.

“Physicians and members of the medical staff are documenting in a structured way to ensure that there is maximum use of order sets, clinical decision support opportunities and alerts and warnings.” Healthcare IT News
