6 new medical colleges announced in West Bengal

Government of West Bengal, WB has decided to come up with 6 new medical colleges in the state. The new medical colleges will be established by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. It will be made in coordination with the Central government.

The medical colleges will be established in Barasat, Jhargram, Uluneria, Jalpaiguri, Aarambagh, and Tamluk. The colleges will be established under the Central sponsored scheme of “Establishment of new medical colleges attached with Districts or Referal Hospitals.”

The colleges will be built in districts such as North 24 Paragana, Hoogly, Howrah, and Purba Medinipur. Each of the medical colleges will take 100 MBBS students. It will help in filling 1,464 posts.

The government has also added that an approval letter is needed for creating the medical colleges from the National Medical Comission. Thus, posts will be added in the medical colleges as per the stuffing norms of the National Medical Commission.

6 new Medical colleges: Names
After careful consideration, the government of West Bengal decided to come up with the names of the medical colleges.

  1. Aarambagh-The medical college in this location will be named Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College &
    Hospital, Arambagh.
  2. Jhargram- The medical college in the location will be named Jhargarm Govemment Medical College & Hospital,
    Jhargarm.
  3. Tamluk-The medical college in this location will be named Tamralipto Govemment Medical College & Hospital,
    Tamluk.
  4. Barasat-The medical college in this location will be named Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital, Barasat.
  5. Uluberia-The medical college in this location will be named Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical.
  6. Jalpaiguri-The medical college in this location will be named Jalpaiguri Govemment Medical College & Hospital,
    Jalpaiguri.

The new medical colleges in the state will be a huge opportunity for the development of the medical sector in the state. The colleges will also comprise Associate Professor, Assistant Professor Posts and RMOs. Times Now
