Bareilly Tops List of Ayushman Bharat Beneficiaries in UP

With 19 people availing of the benefits of Ayushman Bharat scheme, Bareilly has registered the highest number of beneficiaries so far in Uttar Pradesh. It is the world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme for the poor for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. It offers an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh to each family. On Friday, Union minister Maneka Gandhi distributed symbolic cards to beneficiaries in Baheri, which is part of her parliamentary constituency Pilibhit. Dr Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer, said, “During a video conferencing of chief medical officers of 75 districts of UP with principal secretary (health) Prashant Trivedi on Friday, it came to light that highest cases of Ayushman Bharat in the state have been registered in Bareilly with 19 till now. Many districts have registered less than 10 cases so far. However, as the state has set a target of registering at least 4000 cases every day, the target of Bareilly is 80 cases daily.”

“The Center will soon send a customized letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries can undergo treatment in 48 empaneled private hospitals and five government hospitals in the district,” said the CMO. Under this scheme, the central government identified nearly 2.25 lakh families in Bareilly district considering socio economic caste census data of 2011. After the identification of the families, the health department had conducted a survey to count the number of members in a family and added their mobile numbers and ration card number. – TOI
