Clamour grows for trauma center in Andaman

Lok Sabha MP Kuldeep Rai Sharma on Sunday requested the Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Admiral (retd) D K Joshi to establish on priority a trauma centre at GB Pant Hospital here.In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Sharma said there is a pressing need for a trauma centre at the GB Pant Hospital.

He said that at present, there is no trauma centre available to the public in Port Blair. In the event of a major accident or disaster, the absence of such a facility can delay medical treatment, which can have serious consequences for the patients. This is of particular concern given the location of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the potential for natural disasters.

He added that the GB Pant Hospital is the largest government hospital in the region and it is ideally positioned to serve as a trauma centre for the entire population of Port Blair and surrounding areas. “By providing a trauma centre at GB Pant Hospital, we can ensure that the public has access to emergency medical care in the event of a traumatic injury,” he said.

“This Trauma Centre would be a significant step forward in ensuring the health and safety of the residents of Port Blair and surrounding areas,” he added. United News of India
