Dedicated covid health centre opens up at Dhanbad

Dhanbad deputy commissioner, Uma Sharnkar Singh on Thursday evening inaugurated a 100-bed newly developed dedicated Covid Care Centre for Dhanbad at the Cath lab of Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in presence of host of doctors and administrative officials.

Singh said that the centre will offer treatment to asymptomatic and mild patients.

The centre, which is equipped with CCTV cameras, will function under his surveillance.

He further said all arrangements for providing quality and nourishing food has also been made.

In a related development, the district administration today also allowed the Lal Pathlab, a private laboratory to carry out Covid testing.

This will be second private laboratory other than Pathkind, which has been given permission for the same.

First computer teacher of St. Xavier’s school dead

The sudden death of Mohammad Naushad Zafar (53), the first computer teacher of  St.Xavier’s School Hazaribagh at Ranchi on Wednesday left friends, relatives, teachers and students shocked, as the teacher developed a fever after he went to see his ailing father-in-law in the city.

He had a fever and breathing problems, following which he was taken to Orchid hospital in Ranchi where he breathed his last.

Surprisingly no Covid test was done despite his symptoms.

Zafar was known for his smiling face and friendly nature, making him one of the popular teachers of the campus.

Zafar’s daughter Sadiya told The Telegraph Online that his condition deteriorated suddenly on Friday afternoon, following which he was rushed to hospital.

“Before doctors could do anything, he passed away”, she said, adding that a Covid test was not suggested.

She confirmed that Zafar was having fever for the past few days.

On his last day, he complained of breathing troubles.

An all-religion condolence prayer was  organised online via Youtube live stream.

“Zafar sir had taken computer class online yesterday also. He was smiling and energetic like on other days and so we are finding it very tough to accept that he was now no more,” said a student.
Labourers protest mechanized coal loading

Demanding resumption of manual loading of coal at BCCL sites, labourers of the unorganized sector engaged in the work ahead of lockdown but lying idle since its discontinuation after March 20 on Thursday carried out demonstration at the Sudamdih Colliery area of BCCL.

President of United front, Abhishek Singh said that at a time when people are committing suicide due to unemployment, discontinuation of manual coal loading on the pretext of ensuring social distancing, and launching of mechanized coal loading will further lead to unemployment.

Demand for water supply regularization

A delegation of Congress leaders led by working president of Dhanbad district unit of Congress, Ravindra Verma on Thursday met the officials of the drinking water and sanitation department (DWSD) and demanded regular supply of water in urban areas of Dhanbad town.

Verma, while talking to the DWSD superintending engineer RN Sharma, also complained about irregular water supply in different areas.

Sharma assured to take all possible steps to improve the water supply within a week.

Lawyers boycott judicial work

Dhanbad lawyers on Thursday boycotted judicial work in different courts of Dhanbad to protest against the brutal murder of lawyer Prakash Yadav in Jamshedpur on Wednesday.

“The boycott has been carried out at the appeal of the Jharkhand Bar Council. We will also demand immediate arrest of the culprits and compensation worth Rs 1 crore for the next of the kin of deceased,” said president of Dhanbad Bar Association, Radheyshayam Goswami.

Goswami also demanded implementation of the Advocate Protection Act in the state. – Telegraph India
