Delhi govt orders hospital staff to wear designated uniform on duty

The Delhi government on Monday issued orders mandating state government hospital staffers to wear uniforms or face action.

In a letter issued to medical directors and superintendents of all state hospitals, Amit Singla, Health Secretary, Delhi, said “all staff deployed in the health facility under the Delhi government will wear the designated uniform while performing their duties. Action will be taken against any staff found disobeying the orders. The medical director, the medical superintendent and head of department of the health facilities concerned will be responsible for ensuring compliance of these orders.

Enquiries reveal that medical staffers in Delhi government hospitals, including the contractual staff are provided with aprons, uniform allowance and washing allowance.

However, the state government has observed that the medical staff are sometimes without the mandatory uniform for which they draw allowances in the salary provided to them.

Burari Hospital Medical Director Ashish Goyal said many staffers may not wear uniforms due to extreme heat, though mostly the employees of state government facilities do wear the designated uniforms.

Goyal termed the orders as routine, adding that staffers in uniform added to hospital efficiency and functioning. Tribune India
