Fujifilm achieves carbon neutral at a recycling site in China

Fujifilm Holdings Corporation (President and CEO, Representative Director Teiichi Goto) announces that Fujifilm Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) Corp. has become carbon neutral.

Fujifilm Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) which recycles used multifunction printers of Fujifilm Business Innovation Corp. installed some 8,000 square meters of solar photovoltaic panels on site, enough to cover 90% of all electricity it uses. The company purchases electricity accompanied with renewable energy certificates*1 to cover rest of the electricity consumption to switch entirely to renewable electricity.

In its climate action targets, Fujifilm is aiming to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing by fiscal year ending March 2041 (FY2040) and reduce carbon dioxide emissions across the entire product lifecycle from procurement of raw materials to manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal by 50% by fiscal year ending March 2031 (FY2030), compared to FY2019 levels. In order to achieve these targets, Fujifilm launched a new Fujifilm Group environmental strategy, “Green Value Climate Strategy,” which includes “Green Value Manufacturing” – a strategy to manufacture with a lower environmental impact, and delivering “Green Value Products” with excellent environmental performance. Fujifilm promotes measures that lead to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in manufacturing under “Green Value Manufacturing”. For example, manufacturing sites in the Netherlands and Belgium already use renewable electricity for 100% of their electricity consumption.

Fujifilm accelerates further its initiatives toward carbon neutral at manufacturing sites. The initiatives include the move to use renewable-derived electricity for all of electricity consumption at large scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Denmark, which is currently expanding its production capability, and in North Carolina, USA, in due to go operational in Spring 2025.
