LG admin sanctions Rs 132.50 crore for additional block at LD hospital

To overcome the extra burden and heavy flow of patients, the LG administration has sanctioned Rs 132.50 Crores for construction of a 200-bedded additional block at Lala Ded hospital Srinagar.

The construction work of the building is under way and is likely to be completed in 2023.

The five-floor building will have a complete oncology department, high end labour room, and four operation theatres and a big diagnostic laboratory and neonatal unit.

Besides, there will be a ground plus 5-floors with parking space, patients waiting lounge, canteen, new-born section, and hospital equipment and also space for wards.

Medical Superintendent, Lala Ded Hospital, Muzaffar Sherwani told Rising Kashmir that keeping in view the heavy flow of patients, the additional block will play an important role to provide the best health care services in the city.

He said that the hospital did not have any facilities for oncology cases.

” We had to shift those complicated cases of malignancies to SMHS and SKIMS hospitals. Now, we will have a full-fledged oncology department where patients will have facilities of oncology, radio therapies and get MRI and CT scan done,” he said.

Dr Sherwani said that the building is currently under construction and it will be completed next year in 2023.

According to the official data, Over 1000 patients visit Out Patient Department ( OPD) and In Patient Department (IPD) every day.

” Over 100 surgeries are also performed 24 *7. We also get referals from rural hospitals as well. We have justified and unjustified referals from different districts. Currently, the overall burden is high,” he said.

According to the officials, the building will be constructed using the Base Isolation Technique which is earth quake proof and has been recommended by the World Bank as the region falls under the Seismic Zone-V.

The building has been categorized as Green Building and is being designed to achieve performance based on the international design standards. The hospital building will provide latest medical equipment for the pre- and post-natal care.

It is pertinent to mention that the prestigious project has been taken up under the component “Critical Infrastructure” of JTFRP funded by the World Bank.
