MRFF to provide USD 230M for medical research

The MRFF will provide almost $230 million for research into a range of health and medical issues that impact Australians. These include cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia and cognitive decline, mental health and respiratory disease. Funding is from the MRFF’s:

  • Clinical Trials Activity initiative ($6.5 million, 3 projects)
  • Clinician Researchers initiative ($45.5 million, 33 projects)
  • Early to Mid-Career Researchers initiative ($43.3 million, 26 projects)
  • Medical Research Commercialisation initiative ($50 million, 1 project)
  • Preventive and Public Health Research initiative ($47.9 million, 38 projects)
  • Rapid Applied Research Translation initiative ($36.2 million, 9 projects).

The MRFF will also provide $245 million under the following new grant opportunities:

  • $99 million under the 2024 BioMedTech Incubator (guidelines are now available)
  • $24 million under the 2024 Cardiovascular Health grant opportunity
  • $44.8 million under the 2024 Early to Mid-Career Researchers grant opportunity
  • $13.4 million under the 2024 Indigenous Health Research grant opportunity
  • $23.7 million under the 2023 Innovative Trials grant opportunity
  • $20 million under the 2024 Paediatric Brain Cancer Research grant opportunity
  • $20 million under the 2024 Survivorship Care and Collaborative Research Prioritisation grant opportunity.
