O2 production in medical colleges to triple in UP by next year

Due to the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has become self-sufficient in oxygen production, an official spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh government said on Tuesday.

He said the state’s capacity of liquid medical oxygen production in medical colleges is also expected to grow three times by January next year. The state government is setting up oxygen plants in medical colleges at the cost of Rs 30 crore.

It may be noted that the demand for oxygen has been the highest since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in 2020. According to the available figures, in January 2021, the capacity of liquid medical oxygen production in medical colleges was 241 KL (Lilo Liters), which has been increased by two and a half times to 624 KL. Efforts are also being made to increase it further to 820 KL by January next year.

Besides, the Yogi Government has made it mandatory for medical colleges to install an oxygen tank with a capacity of 20 KL to meet the needs of patients and to ensure no shortage of oxygen in medical colleges, said Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Medical Education. Kumar added that on the directives of CM Yogi, the availability of oxygen in medical colleges has been doubled and would be tripled by January next year.

CM Yogi has been working on war footing for the last five years to streamline the health services in the state. While the number of private and government colleges has been doubled, the Yogi government is committed to build at least one medical college in each of the 75 districts of the state. The facilities and services at medical colleges of UP are also being improved by the state government.

In the 100 days of Yogi 2.0, Memorandums of Understanding have been signed with two medical colleges in Sambhal and Maharajganj districts while MoUs for setting up medical colleges in two other districts are in the pipeline.

The Chief Minister’s campaign in the field of medical education has started yielding positive outcomes. Health facilities and services are being upgraded in medical colleges of the state, he added. United News of India
